Face masks still required in GP Practices from 19th July

COVID-19 restrictions are set to be eased further from 19th July. Whilst it will no longer be mandatory to wear a mask in most public settings the situation in healthcare settings will remain unchanged for the time being.

Local infection control guidance has now been released and this stipulates the continued use of face masks in GP practice settings. We will continue to wear appropriate PPE and we ask our patients to continue to wear masks when in the surgery building, unless already exempt.

COVID-19 infections have been increasing locally and we are seeing more positive swab results now than we have done for some time. We still need to protect our most clinically vulnerable patients. There are still significant numbers of unvaccinated or partially vaccinated people in the community and the vaccinations, whilst very effective, do not provide 100% protection.

There is also a surge in other viral respiratory tract infections at the moment and this is predicted to continue from now through the winter. These other viral infections often oblige people to isolate whilst undergoing COVID-19 testing and they can lead to serious illness babies and in vulnerable people. Continued mask use will help to reduce transmission of these infections.

We thank you in advance for your continued cooperation and for helping us to protect each other.
